Delta vs ChatGPT: why use a dedicated tool for session notes?

ChatGPT or Delta for a psychologist's session notes: what ChatGPT does well, what not to give it, and what a tool built for health care changes.

Countries covered : Belgium, Switzerland, France

We make Delta. Many psychologists already use ChatGPT to rephrase a note or draft a letter, and it is often a good starting point. This page explains what ChatGPT does well, where it causes problems, and what a tool built for health care changes.

In short

  • ChatGPT is very good at rephrasing, summarising or drafting, as long as you give it nothing that identifies the patient.
  • Delta is built for health data. It takes the session notes, writes the report and keeps track of each patient's follow-up.

What ChatGPT does well

Rephrasing a paragraph, suggesting a report outline, summarising an article, drafting a letter from anonymous notes. For these uses, ChatGPT is fast and often relevant.

Where ChatGPT causes problems

The consumer version is not hosted by a certified health data host, and no data processing agreement protects you. A psychologist's session notes are health data. In France, a provider hosting such data for you must be HDS certified (article L1111-8 of the Public Health Code), and the GDPR requires a data processing agreement (article 28).

ChatGPT also keeps no record per patient. Each conversation starts from what you paste, so nothing links today's session to those from three months ago.

Delta in a few lines

Delta is an AI assistant for mental health and allied health professionals in France, Belgium and Switzerland. During the session, Delta transcribes what is said. Or after the session, you dictate your observations. Delta then writes the session report and adds it to the patient's record. The record updates itself with a summary of the follow-up, the goals being tracked and the topics for the next session.

Data is stored with a host certified for health data (HDS). The patient's name and anything that could identify them are pseudonymised before reaching the AI. No audio file is kept, and data is never used to train models. Delta costs €29 per month incl. VAT with a yearly plan, or €35 without commitment, after a 14-day trial with no credit card.

What a dedicated tool changes

Data

Delta uses an HDS-certified host, pseudonymises the patient's name before the AI, keeps no audio file and trains no model on your data. A data processing agreement is accepted when you create your account.

Note-taking

With ChatGPT, you first write your notes, then anonymise them, then paste them. With Delta, you let transcription run during the session, or dictate a few sentences after.

Follow-up

Delta adds each report to the patient's record and updates the summary of the follow-up, the goals being tracked and the topics for the next session.

Which one to choose?

ChatGPT stays useful for rephrasing or drafting text with no data that identifies a patient.

Delta is built for everything about the patient, session notes, reports and follow-up over time.

Can I paste my session notes into ChatGPT if I remove the patient's name?

Removing the name is not always enough. An age, a job, a town or a specific life event can be enough to recognise someone. If you use ChatGPT, remove anything that could identify the person.

Does Delta use ChatGPT?

No. Delta uses other AI models, called in a way that your data is never used to train a model, and its data is stored with an HDS-certified host.
