Delta vs Upheal: which AI assistant for your session notes?
Delta and Upheal compared for psychologists in France: target users, HDS hosting, French language support, audio, data use and price.
Countries covered : Belgium, Switzerland, France
Delta and Upheal are two AI assistants that write session notes for therapists. Upheal is an English-language tool built first for the North American market, with an electronic health record, telehealth and billing. Delta is the clinical assistant for mental health and allied health professionals, with data hosted in France by an HDS-certified host.
We make Delta. This page compares Delta and Upheal as fairly as we can, including where Upheal does better. Information about Upheal comes from its official website, checked on 9 October 2026. When something is not published there, we say so. We quote its figures as claims from its website, since we cannot verify them ourselves.
Upheal in a few lines
Upheal is aimed at mental health professionals, mainly therapists and counsellors in private practice, group practices and virtual care providers. The testimonials on its website come mostly from US clinicians (licensed counsellors, marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers). The default version of the site is American. Other versions exist for Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and the EU, all in English (Upheal EU website).
According to its website, Upheal is used by more than 70,000 providers and over 800 organisations. That is a large figure. The testimonials and country versions of the site suggest this use is concentrated in English-speaking countries.
Upheal creates notes from a video, audio or in-person session, from dictation, from typed text or from an uploaded file. It also offers built-in telehealth, treatment plans, an AI assistant and, in its fuller plans, an electronic health record with invoicing, online payments, a client portal and US insurance billing.
On compliance, Upheal's privacy and compliance page cites HIPAA (the US framework), the Canadian PHIPA and PIPEDA laws, GDPR and UK GDPR, plus SOC 2 Type II certification. It says it uses AWS for infrastructure and storage and keeps data in pseudonymised form. Neither that page nor the EU version of the site mentions HDS hosting or the country where data is stored.
Delta in a few lines
Delta is the clinical assistant for mental health and allied health professionals. You can take notes in two ways. During the session, Delta transcribes what is said. Or, after the session, you dictate your observations. You can also add written notes.
Delta then generates the session report, with a short summary, a detailed summary and topics for the next session. It takes your profession and your approach into account (CBT, EMDR, psychodynamic, systemic and so on). The patient record updates with a summary of care and the goals being tracked. Delta also drafts letters, certificates and assessment reports suited to your profession.
Data is hosted in France by an HDS-certified host, and AI processing happens in France. The patient's name and identifying details are pseudonymised before reaching the AI. No audio file is kept, since audio is only used during the session to produce the transcript. Data is never used to train a model. Delta costs €29 per month incl. VAT billed annually (€348 a year), or €35 per month billed monthly with no commitment, after a 14-day trial with no credit card.
What sets them apart
Who it is for
Upheal is built around North American practice. You can see it in its note templates (SOAP, DAP, intake notes), in US insurance billing and in some fees shown in dollars (online payments, insurance billing) even on the EU version of the site. The pages we checked do not refer to the French framework, such as Mon soutien psy, professional secrecy or health data hosting rules.
Delta is for mental health and allied health professionals. Reports follow your therapeutic approach, and letters, certificates and assessment reports are written for your profession.
Hosting and data
This is the biggest difference for a psychologist in France. Health data entrusted to a provider should in principle be hosted by an HDS-certified host (see our guide to HDS hosting). Upheal does not mention HDS certification on the pages we checked and does not say where data is hosted. Delta hosts data in France with an HDS-certified host and processes AI in France.
On audio, the two tools are closer. Upheal's EU pricing page says session audio is deleted by default once notes are ready, but you can choose to keep it (Upheal EU pricing). With Delta, no audio file is kept, and there is no option to keep one.
On AI training, Upheal uses two wordings. Its privacy page says it does not use sessions to train its platform without explicit permission from the clinician and their clients. Its pricing page says de-identified data is used to improve the service, with a setting to opt out of model training. With Delta, data is never used to train a model, with no setting to change.
Language
According to its help centre, Upheal can transcribe sessions in 35 languages, including French, and write notes in French or Canadian French. It lists three limits. Notes come out in English by default, and only an admin can change the language for the whole practice. Spoken dictation works in English only. Sessions mixing two languages are only handled for English and Spanish.
With Delta, you can have what is said transcribed during the session or dictate your observations afterwards, whichever you prefer.
Features beyond notes
Here Upheal does more than Delta. It offers built-in telehealth that creates notes automatically, treatment plans, an AI assistant and, in its EHR plans, a real practice management system with invoices, online payments and a client portal. It also has mobile and desktop apps. If you want a single tool for everything and you work in English, that is a real advantage.
Delta focuses on written clinical work. It transcribes or takes your dictation, writes the report, keeps the patient record up to date and drafts your letters, certificates and assessment reports. It does not do scheduling, billing or telehealth.
Price
On the EU version of its site, Upheal shows a free plan, an AI Notes plan at €35 per month with unlimited sessions, an EHR plan at €0.85 per session and an EHR Pro plan at €85 per month. The advanced AI assistant costs an extra €35 per month, except in EHR Pro. The site does not say whether these prices include VAT, and we found no annual rate. Upheal offers a free trial with no credit card, whose length is not stated, and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Upheal's free plan is generous. Notes are unlimited, but only from text, dictation or uploads, and for individual sessions. Delta's free plan is limited to 10 sessions a month, with both note-taking modes. Delta Pro costs €29 per month incl. VAT billed annually, or €35 per month billed monthly with no commitment.
Which one to choose?
Upheal may suit you if you practise in an English-speaking country or work mostly in English, if you want one tool for notes, telehealth and billing, or if you see clients in several languages. Its wide adoption, according to its website, and its SOC 2 Type II certification are also reassuring signs.
Delta may suit you if you practise in France and want data hosted in France by an HDS-certified host. It may also suit you if you want to dictate your observations after the session. The same goes if you want reports that follow your approach (CBT, EMDR, psychodynamic, systemic) and letters or certificates written for your profession, or if you prefer that no audio file is ever kept.
Whatever the tool, remember to inform your patient and get their consent.

Does Upheal work in French?
Partly. According to its help centre, Upheal transcribes sessions in French and can write notes in French, but notes come out in English by default and spoken dictation works in English only. Its website is in English.
Does Upheal keep session audio?
According to its EU pricing page, audio is deleted by default once notes are ready, but the clinician can choose to keep it. Delta keeps no audio file. Audio is only used during the session to produce the transcript.
How much does Upheal cost compared with Delta?
