Software for psychomotor therapists: how to choose
Scheduling, invoices, patient records, assessments. What software should do for a psychomotor therapist in private practice, and the questions to ask before choosing.
Countries covered : France
A psychomotor therapist in private practice handles four things alongside sessions. Scheduling, invoices, following each patient and writing assessments. Few tools do all of it well. It helps to know what you need before choosing.
The four needs of a psychomotor therapy practice
- Scheduling. Regular follow-up over months, often around the school timetable.
- Invoices. In France, private sessions are not covered by national health insurance. Families need an invoice for their insurer or for disability funding. See our article on fees and funding.
- Records and follow-up. What happened in each session and how the child is progressing. See our session notes template.
- Assessments. The psychomotor assessment report takes a long time to write. See our article on how to structure the assessment report.
How to choose
1. Where the data is hosted
Your records hold health data, most often about children. Check where it is stored and which certification the host holds. In France, a provider hosting health data for you must be HDS certified (article L1111-8 of the Public Health Code). See our article on HDS hosting.
2. Time saved on writing
What takes the most time is assessments and letters for the family, the school or disability services. Check whether the software actually helps you write, or only stores what you typed.
3. Following progress over time
For a progress assessment or a disability file, you need to see what has changed since the start of care. A good tool shows you without rereading every note.
4. Devices
At the practice, at school or at home, check that the tool works on tablet and phone, not only on a computer.
5. The contract
You remain responsible for your patients' data. Under the GDPR, you need a data processing agreement with the provider (article 28). Also check that your data is not used to train models.
Questions to ask before you commit
- Where is the data hosted, and is the host certified for health data?
- Is my data used to train models?
- Can I dictate my observations instead of typing them?
- Can I get my records back if I stop?
- Can I try it without commitment?
How Delta works
Delta is an AI assistant designed with psychomotor therapists. During the session, Delta transcribes what is said, for example conversations with the child or their parents. You can also dictate what you observed right after. Delta then writes the session report, taking your specialty into account, and adds it to the patient's record. You can follow each patient's progress when it is time to renew care or prepare a disability file. Delta also writes your assessment reports.
Data stays in Europe, on infrastructure certified for health data (HDS), and AI processing runs on servers located in France. The patient's name and any information that could identify them are pseudonymised before reaching the AI, no audio file is kept, and the data is never used to train models. Delta works on computer, tablet and phone. More details on the Delta for psychomotor therapists page.
What is the best software for a psychomotor therapist?
There is no single answer. The right choice depends on what takes up most of your time. For many psychomotor therapists, that is assessments and letters for families.
Does the software need health data certification?
If the provider hosts health data for you, it must meet the rules of your country. In France, that means HDS certification.
Is a transcription tool useful when the session is mostly non-verbal?
It is most useful for conversations with parents. For what happens through the body and play, dictating right after the session is more useful.
Do I need to tell parents?
Yes. They must know the tool is being used and be able to say no, and the child should be told in words suited to their age. See our article on patient consent.
